About Bidyadanga Aboriginal Community La Grange
Bidyadanga Aboriginal Community is located on Karajarri Country, 1590 kilometres from the capital city of Perth and 180 kilometres south of Broome in Western Australia.
Bidyadanga is the largest remote Aboriginal community in Western Australia with a population of more than 850 residents and is home to five language groups including the Karajarri, Juwaliny, Mangala, Nyangumarta and Yulparitja language groups.
Rich in history, art and culture and with a developing economy, Bidyadanga has many community facilities and infrastructure to support residents.
The word Bidyadanga comes from a word for "emu watering hole" (Pijarta or bidyada).
Bidyadanga Aboriginal Community La Grange Inc (BACLGI) was incorporated in 1975 as a not-for-profit organisation to administer funded programs and services such as Municipal Services, Bidyadanga Health Services (since July 2025), Early Years Partnership through our Men’s Centre, Family Centre and Women’s Centre, the Bidyadanga Community Resource Centre, Community Care/HACC, the Bidyadanga Art Centre, and a Centrelink agency.
We own and operate the Bidyadanga General Store, Pijarta Produce in partnership with Western Group Ag and Ngapa Laparnarna Services in partnership with Flow Water Services and Western Group Ag.
A Council of community representatives governs the organisation.
The Council is comprised of two members of each of the five language groups and a chairperson that reside in Bidyadanga. Council elections are held every three years.
As the largest remote Aboriginal community in Western Australia, it is imperative that services and facilities continue to be operational and effectively managed.
BACLG Inc is registered as a Public Benevolent Institution.
The BACLGI Administration Office manages and coordinates the delivery of all services including many non-essential services to the residents of the Community.
